RBY Woodworking

General Job Responsibilities:  The woodworking mentor will work with incarcerated teens at The Los Prietos Boy Camp through our “Resurrected by Youth” business team. The mentor is responsible for teaching woodworking skills to a class of approximately 10 -12 students through the development and production of up-cycled wine barrel goods to be sold at our State St. location.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Develop sellable products that are quick and easy for teens to produce and sell.

  • Creating hands-on and engaging lesson plans for each class.

  • Communicating with the business Mentor team once a week so that the classes are cohesive between the business and the vocational training of the students.

  • Provide a brief description of content or progress each week to Education Director.

  • Track student attendance each week

Qualifications and skills needed:

  • Two years of experience teaching woodworking or carpentry

  • Experience with woodworking equipment: i.e. Table saws, sanders, etc.

  • Experience instructing/facilitating educational programs with at risk youth.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Provide own transportation.

  • High energy and positive attitude that thrives in a nimble and fast moving environment.

  • Must complete Live Scan and pass background check.

Job Details:

  • Part-time role

  • Four (4) hours a week on Saturday Afternoons, 2 hours of class time, 1 hour preparation time, 1 hour paid travel

  • Reports to Education Director

  • $25/hr, non-negotiable

  • Class is located at Los Prietos Boys Camp
