General Job Responsibilities: The woodworking mentor will work with incarcerated teens at The Los Prietos Boy Camp through our “Resurrected by Youth” business team. The mentor is responsible for teaching woodworking skills to a class of approximately 10 -12 students through the development and production of up-cycled wine barrel goods to be sold at our State St. location.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Develop sellable products that are quick and easy for teens to produce and sell.
Creating hands-on and engaging lesson plans for each class.
Communicating with the business Mentor team once a week so that the classes are cohesive between the business and the vocational training of the students.
Provide a brief description of content or progress each week to Education Director.
Track student attendance each week
Qualifications and skills needed:
Two years of experience teaching woodworking or carpentry
Experience with woodworking equipment: i.e. Table saws, sanders, etc.
Experience instructing/facilitating educational programs with at risk youth.
Excellent communication skills.
Provide own transportation.
High energy and positive attitude that thrives in a nimble and fast moving environment.
Must complete Live Scan and pass background check.
Four (4) hours a week on Saturday Afternoons, 2 hours of class time, 1 hour preparation time, 1 hour paid travel
