YOUTH INTERACTIVE POSTCARDS OF SANTA BARBARA PUBLIC ART MURAL CELEBRATION

On Sept. 5 at the Indigo Hotel, Mayor Helene Schneider will unveil 16 murals from the Youth Interactive Postcards of Santa Barbara Public Art Mural Project.

The Postcards of Santa Barbara Public Art Mural Project is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between the Santa Barbara Art community and the city of Santa Barbara. Carefully selected artists are creating 16 murals that represent the best days of our lives in Santa Barbara. These murals, created in the Community Arts Workshop (CAW), located at 631 Garden St., will serve to beautify the lower block of State Street. For one year, the murals will cover the construction project that is taking place across the street from the Indigo Hotel.

Postcards of Santa Barbara Public Mural Project Approved

Diamant will be working on his piece “divefly” (pictured), which begins its installation in August and should be comletely up by the beginning of September.

KEYT Youth Interactive Murals

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Youth Interactive in Santa Barbara has helped to beautify the lower State Street area with new paintings that, together make a mural.  Many look like classic postcards.

City leaders, and groups including Santa Barbara Beautiful, the Downtown Organization and business leaders all supported the effort which took months of planning.

The art has been posted in an active construction zone, where the Entrada de Santa Barbara hotel is going up, two bridges over creeks are being built, a remodeled multi story building is getting a facelift, and a new pizza restaurant is opening.

Blight to some, is beauty to others.

The La Boheme Dancers, DJ Darla Bea and others helped to jazz up the unveiling Saturday afternoon.

Awards for the best art were handed out.

The work is expected to be up about a year.
