About the Role:
Under the direction of the Youth Interactive Executive Director, the Education Director is responsible for the organization, delivery, and supervision of the education programs. The primary objective of the role is to manage and grow the YI education program in line with Youth Interactive’s mission (Full description below)

Key Responsibilities:

Outreach and Recruitment:
Have a strong focus on student recruitment & retention. Maintain and grow relationships with all partner organizations to include (SBUSD, SBCC, UCSB, Westmont, Antioch and our educational collaborators such as probation dept, Ensemble Theatre, Granada, SB Bowl, Channel Islands, Montecito Bank and Trust, the Impact Hub, the SANDBOX, etc). Engage instructors for youth programs and mentors, evaluation, reporting, etc..). Focus on continuity of mentors and the quality of instruction. Oversee marketing in collaboration with our vocational program mentors and YI shop manager of all programs. Research student activities & partnership opportunities with other SB non-profit and for-profit organizations to include agreements for youth trainings, etc.

Program Content and Curriculum:
Assure that content and themes are integrated into all YI education programs and final youth produced content. Development of lesson plans and curriculum in concert with site partners, mentors, education coordinator and instructors. Develop new programming/activities that strengthen the curriculum, increase retail opportunities, grow overall organization’s outreach to youth, teens and families. Oversee evaluation of education programs. Lead the effort to ensure student attendance is taken by either student leaders or teachers / that student questionnaires are filled out pre and post each semester / ensure that mentors meet and discuss the good, bad and ugly of each semester in order to improve the quality of our education standards for students and mentors involved. Ensure that YI curriculum remains relevant with national standards and trends in CTE (career tech education) criteria.

Co-ordination of Community Initiatives Working with Executive Director and mentors:
Recruitment of participants to key initiatives: community partners and youth. Maintain relationships with community partners and funders. Coordinate marketing and distribution of stories/content/programs. Oversee social media stories for educational programming, including monthly written reports and stories of YI’s educational work.

General Administration/Program Management:
Supervise on-site and off-site education program coordinator(s), instructors, interns and/or volunteers assisting in youth programs.

Full-time non-exempt, 40 hours per week.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 based upon experience.

Specific duties include:

GET IT DONE (GID) student opportunity management - this is our overarching program providing wrap around services – one to one tutoring, etc. Support GID manager by liaising with students to match needs. Oversee p/t education manager managing the 40 volunteers and students who reports to this role ensuring close oversight of the program and its ongoing effectiveness for the students.
Have ability to teach students – financial literacy, business and entrepreneurial classes
YI Curriculum development. Interest in Student needs and tailoring education to their needs.
Manage student leadership program
Manage School and probation presentations to recruit new students to YI.
Mentor communication
Education Management of 18+ mentors
Manage mentors and curriculum for YI RBY program at Camp
Develop school and higher Ed relationships
Develop School and College accreditation
Grow YI educational programming to benefit many more students.
Create “START UP week” summer program
Create and manage “CTE RELEVANT START UP” days for SBUSD
Create SUMMER MAKER SPACES / events with vocational mentors.

Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent organization, leadership and collaboration, problem-solving, time management and communication skills. Ability to work independently and with a team, to handle challenging situations that may arise, and work in a young & culturally diverse environment. Education experience (teaching and program management) Project management experience, non-profit and / or administration experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required
Creative, Business and entrepreneurial background / experience.
Minimum of four years of experience with youth and adult programming and two years of proven staff development, supervision and training.
A commitment to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience.
Must be knowledgeable about youth development program design and planning, administration and evaluation, after School standards, as well as knowledge & awareness of variety of out of school activities.
Must have the ability to develop positive relationships with youth, adults, parents, staff, teachers, administration and the YI and community members.
Must be able to work independently, have consistent follow through and demonstrate good judgment.
Must know how to grow, motivate and maintain a strong team.
Excellent organizational skills and multi-project/multi-task oriented, including experience scheduling and coordinating multiple fun and education-focused activities for youth.
Team player with proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio economic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds.
Background/Fingerprint/TB Clearance. Employees working with YI are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors. Job offers are conditional and contingent upon background clearance.
