Tutoring and Education: Get It Done Update

The get It Done Program works to provide students with all around assistance in things like academics, getting a driver’s license, registering to vote, fun experiences, and food and nutrition.

This semester Get It Done:

  • Has 26 tutors, from B’nai B’rith congregation, UCSB, and the greater Santa Barbara community.

  • Tutoring provided every day after school.

  • 20 students actively receiving academic assitance

  • 4 brand new calculus tutors

  • A wide range of subjects being taught, including: all levels of math, biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, Japanese, Spanish, all levels of English, art, computer science, finance, and driver’s education.

  • Has most every piece of school supplies imaginable

  • A calm, stress-free environment where students can feel welcome always.

If there is a subject a student needs help with, Get It Done will work to find someone who is able to provide that help. Academic improvement can be a slow process because it takes a lot of trust, support, and change in habit. Progress is constantly happening though. This month, one student went from performing poorly to acing Honors Chemistry! Another student went from almost dropping out of high school to acing World History!

Get It Done started with the B’nai B’rith Congregation exploring options and ways to get involved and be a part of the community. Now, it has become an extremely important part of Youth Interactive! Headed by Mahela Jones, the needs of the students are communicated to a liaison at B’nai B’rith and sent onward to the full congregation. They then work to find an opportunity, tutor, internship, etc. to fulfill the need of the student at YI!
